7 Of My Childhood Superheroes

Back when I was still a wimpy kid, I made some remarkable recognition of fictional characters in my life. It was then that I thought I should be, at least, one of them. Yes, it may sound absurd, but I was digging into it. In fact, I was even driven to an enigma that my existence has a purpose—something that would require me to take the sword and defeat the Dragons upon the skies.

Yes, it may sound absurd, but I was digging into it. In fact, I was even driven to an enigma that my existence has a purpose—something that would require me to take the sword and defeat the Dragons upon the skies. Believe it or not, I was fueled to perform a heroic act using my massive extraordinary power—way beyond what a normal kid can ever think of—that I have. Truthfully, these characters washed my entire being as a kid and I can't blame myself. I was a fan.

7. To Be As Super as Superman

7 Of My Childhood Superheroes

Of course, who the hell on earth would not want to be Superman? He possesses the powers of near invulnerability regardless of the green thing, Kryptonite. This is not to mention the charm he has for the chicks. But, the latter is not what I'm after. During my childhood, I really thought that there's a way to flying and seeing things beyond an ordinary eye. However, as innocent as my soul, I would want to use that for the betterment of the world and stop the evil people from doing bad things. Trust me. Clark's personality, when turned into Superman, inspired me to be a Man of Steel. I don't know a phone booth back then, though. I even had this foolish idea that I can lift our cabinet. Alas, my brain is indeed distorted. As a result, I strained my left arm and Mom had to bring me to the doctor. Anyway, I ended up satisfied because mother bought me a Superman costume. Ironic, isn't it? No, it is just sweet. Watch out Lex Luther!

6. Son Goku's Kamehameha

7 Of My Childhood Superheroes

Dragon Ball Z is one of the best things that happen to my life. Every after school, I was in a rush on my way back home. "I don't want to miss a single episode of DBZ," I told myself. Goosebumps even hit me every time Goku clamors his specialty, the Kamehameha. On the other hand, I eventually found myself daydreaming. What if the Kamehameha is true? What if I do have a tail like Gokus? Do I have the blood of a Saiyan in me? You know, all of those stuffs, they burden me more than my home works at school. I was into a belief that the Saiyans are my ancestors. I even pray that I'm out in the woods when the moon is full. I don't want to hurt anybody—if you know what I mean. In present time, I really laugh hard every time I reminisce the foolish days of my childhood.

5. Because I'm Wolverine, I Regenerate

7 Of My Childhood Superheroes

In the Marvel Universe, Wolverine is literally a tough guy. He doesn't only have the bones to vanquish enemies, but he's special regenerating ability made him more awesome. There was this point in my childhood life where Logan plays a distinct role to me. His claws were struck in my heart so deep that I merely think of finding Professor X. I believe that mutants exist and the governments are just isolating them. Or, they are just too selfish to let the world know that Logan is true and only them deserve to see his beard. This belief of mine moved me to claim myself as a mutant. I do know that I have a special ability (maybe turn a color blue to green or sharpen a pencil using my teeth) and I need Professor X to assist me on it. But of course, reality strikes so hard that you see the world differently. I ain't not mutant, dang.

4. I'm Kenshin Himora, the Eggslayer!

7 Of My Childhood Superheroes

Of all the these characters, Kenshin Himora was my favorite. Despite the abilities and swordsmanship he has, the X scar was a thing to me. I just think that it was cool to have one and because of that, other kids will fear me; "Oh my, it's Alvin the Eggslayer!" or "Yes, it's him. The kid who slayed a thousand egg!" Believe me, I nearly decided to put a scar on my own until I realize that the cutter has rust all over. I don't want to die because of an Iron Oxide component. This "putting a scar thing" is just a made-up, though. Nonetheless, I can really see that there's something when has a scar like that of Kenshin's. Well, this was an abyss that I was fighting all over back on those days.

3. The Legendary Batman

7 Of My Childhood Superheroes

My Dad always scold me because of my Batman collections. I don't know the reason exact why. Although I saw him one day screaming on the top of his lungs when he stepped on my Batman's arm. Ouch! We all know that Bruce Wayne's intelligence and wits made Batman lethal to his enemies. He doesn't have any extraordinary powers like Superman's or Wolverine's, but he defeats his opponents in his own logical way. Because of that, I came up with an idea that through my brain, I'll be able to invent something useful—something that can help in capturing notorious syndicates or evil maniacs. So, without hesitations, I studied, studied and studied. Sadly, it wasn't my story after all, though, Mom was happy seeing me reading books.

2. I Was Supposed To Be Vincent

7 Of My Childhood Superheroes

Yu Yu Hakusho or known for its English title "Ghost Files" or "Poltergeist Report" is very famous during my years. You won't see a kid out of their house until this Anime is done. Indeed, Yoshihiro Togashi, the mastermind, made an exceptional work. So, why is Yu Yu Hakusho resembles my childhood moments? When my family had a little gathering in the beach, Father told me that my name was supposed to be Vincent. They decided to name me "Alvin" because during the year of my birth, Alvin Patimonio, a basketball star in the Philippines, is very well-known. Truthfully, I don't find any connection rather than naming me after a basketball star. Going back, among the 4 characters in Yu Yu Hakusho (Eugene, Alfred, Dennis and Vincent, all in Philippine adpation), Vincent or known for its Japanese name Hiei, for me, was the best. His Jagan and Black Dragon Wave made me concur that he's one tough ass to beat. After Father told me about the history of my name, I suddenly felt like I have a connection with Vincent. "Having the same name with him is not a consequence," my little brain can ever suffice of. Forgive me, I was just a kid back then. From then on, I grew an admiration for this character. I even had a poster of Vincent in my room during that time. I guess that's how gay I was.

1.  I'm one of Mighty Morphine Freaking Rangers!

7 Of My Childhood Superheroes

If you haven't seen any Power Ranger installments, dude, you have a lot to catch up. Known for it's color endearment, the Power Rangers has brought the world a new level of super heroes. For me, I guess. Every time I watch this series, I always conceive that I'm one of them or I need to be like them. My favorite color is Red, but, as you can see, there is already a character with that distinction. Thus, I need to come up with different color scheme in order for the Power Ranger duties to start off. Nevertheless, I didn't resolve any. I don't want to be Pink, Violet and Green. Neither combining the colors such as Blue-Green Red-Orange was not my style. Hence, my Power Ranger dreams was just a myth. I watch the series regularly, though. Of all these childhood superheroes of mine, Power Rangers is one the reasons that I learnt to pick up a  fight. Honestly, the martial arts shown in the series imbues me to learn how to punch or kick. Basically, it was quite helpful. Come to think of it, I wasn't bullied by seniors during the my elementary years.
